Olive Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies are delicious! I can almost convince myself they are healthy, because you use olive oil instead of butter. It sounds weird, but you really can’t taste the oil at all, it actually gives the cookies a bit of a caramel flavor. Try and see for yourself!

Olive Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies

recipe from the Crepes of Wrath

2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 or 2 tablespoons of milk
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl and set aside.

Combine the sugars, vanilla, and olive oil and beat for about three minutes until it’s the consistency of wet sand. Beat in the eggs one a time.

Gradually beat in the flour mixture, then add in a tablespoon of milk to make the dough a bit firmer, maybe another tablespoon if you feel the dough is too dry. I ended up adding 2 tablespoons of milk and an extra dash of olive oil to make the dough the right consistency. The first few times I made these cookies 2 tablespoons of milk were enough.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Grab a bowl of cold water and wet your hands. Use a tablespoon scoop to out balls of dough, roll between your hands, and place on the a greased cookie sheet. If you don’t wet your hands the dough will stick to you and it’ll be difficult to form the dough balls.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. I took mine out at 11 minutes, but probably should have taken them out sooner. They’re done when the sides start to turn brown, the tops of the cookies will still be pale.

Izzy was upset that we couldn’t let let her try a cookie, because of the chocolate…

  1. Hmm. I’ll have to try these at some point. I’ve had straight-up Olive Oil-Lemon cookies before, but I’ve never thought about using it in chocolate chip cookies. I’ll have to pass that along to the baker…

    • Give them a try! You can’t taste the olive oil, and they are a little bit more interesting than regular chocolate chip cookies. Thanks for visiting 🙂

  2. These look much better than mine….and they definitely tasted much better than mine!!!
